Board of Health Updates: Lyme Disease, Browntail Moths and Rodent Prevention

Stay safe and healthy! The South Portland Board of Health would like to share some important information about Lyme Disease, browntail moths and rodent prevention. 

  • Lyme Disease - May is Lyme Disease Awareness Month! We urge everyone to prevent tick bites. Don’t let a little tick cause a big problem! Learn more at www.maine.gov/lyme

  • Browntail Moths - Browntail moth hairs fall off the caterpillars and cause an itchy rash. Some people can get breathing problems. Learn how to prevent these problems at www.maine.gov/dhhs/browntailmoth

  • Rats – Check out the Rat Prevention Brochure from the Maine Board of Pesticides Control, now available on the Public Health Page of our website in several languages: www.southportland.gov/publichealth
