Electric Tool Library (SPETL)
Hours and Location
The SPETL is open seasonally April through November on Wednesdays and Saturdays from 10 AM to 3PM.
THANK YOU FOR SUPPORTING THE SPETL IN 2025! We had an incredible year with 1,082 individual items checked out of the Tool Library. We are proud to support our community and create a space for sharing and circular economy, while promoting electric landcare tools in place of gas powered tools. We will update this page in the Spring prior to re-opening for the 2026 season.

Overview
The SPETL features all-electric EGO lawn care tools, which South Portland residents can borrow to use at home free of charge by simply using their South Portland Public Library card to sign out the equipment. Residents can borrow electric lawn mowers, leaf blowers, string trimmers, hedge trimmers, and edgers for one week per tool. See what is available or put a hold on a piece of equipment through the library catalogue. If you are not sure how to use the library's hold system, we have created a SPETL Equipment Reservation Tutorial PDF.
Electric tools from the SPETL are free to all South Portland residents over 18 with a library card. Residents who do not have a library card must sign up for one at the Main or Branch library prior to borrowing from the SPETL. Learn how to sign up for a library card and documents required at: South Portland Public Library page.
