UPDATE (1:30 PM Tuesday, August 26, 2025) - Portland Water District is currently working to repair the water main break on Broadway. Water service is expected to be restored to residents today between 4 and 5 PM today (Tuesday, Aug. 26, 2025) if no additional issues arise.
Following this, the City's subcontractor will begin box-cutting the damaged and compromised sections of road and sidewalk. Once excavation is complete, they will fill and compact the area. When the work is finished, the City's Public Works Director will inspect the site. If the road is deemed safe, Broadway will reopen with a temporary gravel surface sometime tomorrow morning, Wednesday, Aug. 27.
Milling and base paving of the area is tentatively planned for tomorrow (Wednesday) night, beginning at roughly 7 PM. Final paving will occur next week, the week of Sept. 1. The City has requested that this be done overnight, but we cannot yet confirm the timing.
>>Please be aware that this schedule could change based on various factors. We will update this post with any new information.
Thanks, everyone, for your patience as all parties work to resolve the issue as quickly as possible!

UPDATE (11:30 AM Tuesday, August 26, 2025) - Portland Water District anticipates that repairs to the broken water main on Broadway will take approximately two days to complete. Once the pipe has been repaired, Public Works will assess the condition of the roadway and make a plan for repairs, as significant material was washed away during the incident. Please continue to avoid this area and travel via alternate routes.

A significant water main break has occurred on Broadway this morning, Tuesday, August 26, near the intersection of Huntress Ave (in the area of Dairy Queen) that has impacted the entirety of the roadway. All traffic (both eastbound and westbound) is being diverted between Main Street and Church Street.
Please seek alternate routes. We expect this to be a lengthy closure. Check the City Facebook page (www.facebook.com/cityofsouthportland) for updates.
