Willard Beach Updates: Short-Term Resilience Workshop and Fishing Shacks

City Council Workshop Sept. 3, 2024: Willard Beach Short-Term Resilience

City Council will discuss options for short-term resilience efforts that may help to protect Willard Beach. Pete Slovinsky, Marine Geologist with Maine Geological Survey, will be present for the workshop. Mr. Slovinsky's responsibilities with the Maine Department of Agriculture, Conservation and Forestry include beach erosion, sea level inundation mapping, coastal GIS atlas, community resiliency, shoreline change mapping, and beach and current surveying. Representatives from Maine DEP will also be present.

Fishing Shacks Update

A summary of the City of South Portland Code Officer’s research findings on requirements for meeting federal shoreland zone standards will be sent to Council in a memo and attached to the August 6, 2024 meeting agenda packet. No discussion, presentation or vote will occur unless directed by Council. The meeting packet will be posted on BoardDocs by 4:30 PM Thursday, August 1.
