There is a lot of conversation in the community about Yard South, a potential development proposal near Bug Light Park. While the City has not yet received an application for this project, staff and the City Council have provided guidance on key concerns for the community over the course of several meetings and at a Council Workshop held on February 22, 2022. The property owners have also submitted a “pre-application” to gather feedback from the City on any necessary additional material that would be needed to submit an application. When the City receives a formal application for Yard South, we will update the Major Projects web page. We’d like to emphasize that Yard South will go through the process that any development would need to to enable the project, with key decisions made by the Planning Board (seven South Portland residents appointed by City Council who review and approve new development projects) and City Council. Public meetings with these bodies are held, and application and meeting materials are posted, so that you can engage in the process. We encourage you to participate.
