Senior Property Tax Assistance
Senior Property Tax Assistance applications are available now and must be returned by April 30, 2026.
- Seniors who are 65 or older may apply.
- To be eligible, you must have qualified to receive a tax credit under the Maine Property Tax Fairness Credit program.
- You must include a copy of your 2025 State Tax Return (1040ME) and Schedule PTFC with your application.
- Applications may be dropped in the secure drop boxes by the front and rear door of City Hall.
- You must apply every year.
- Those who qualified last year and those who inquired about the program this fall will receive this year's application in the mail.
- Visit the Tax Relief Programs webpage to access the online version of the application and get more information. Paper applications are also available in the Treasury office at City Hall.
Pennies Will Be Discontinued
Due to the removal of pennies from circulation, pennies will no longer be available as change for cash transactions with the City once current supplies run out (expected in mid-2026). Cash purchases will be rounded to the nearest $0.05.
Following the standard banks will adhere to:
- If the total is $10.01 or $10.02, you will pay $10 cash.
- If the total is $10.03 or $10.04, you will pay $10.05 cash.
Payments made with credit cards, debit cards, or other non-cash methods will not be rounded.
