Waste Reduction Tip: Clothing & Textiles

Boards & Committees News Posted on August 01, 2024

Graphic of what to with clothing and textiles: repair, reuse, recycle (see web page for text)

Repair    Not ready to part with your damaged textiles or clothing? Take a sewing or mending class to create a new look or repair the item!    Factory 3 and The Sewing Machine Exchange both offer sewing classes.

Reuse    Have clothing that's in good condition, but you no longer need it? Donate to a local organization!    Preble Street, Maine Needs, and St. Elizabeth’s Essentials Pantry all take clothing donations. Check their websites for more information on what items they're currently accepting

Recycle    Have stained or torn sheets, towels, or blankets? Instead of putting them in the trash, try donating them to a local dog or cat wildlife rescue.    Contact Greater Portland Animal Refuge League.

Clothing or textiles no longer in usable condition? Drop them off at the nearest Apparel Impact location.

Apparel Impact collection Bins can be found at the Transfer Station (929 Highland Avenue), the parking lot of the American Legion (413 Broadway), and Caribbean Taste (1422 Broadway).
