FEMA Flood Insurance Rate Maps effective June 20, 2024

On December 20, 2023, the City received a Letter of Final Determination (LFD) from the Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA) that new Flood Insurance Rate Maps (FIRMs) showing flood prone areas in South Portland will become effective on June 20, 2024. In order to maintain South Portland’s enrollment in the National Flood Insurance Program (NFIP), which provides subsidized flood protection insurance through FEMA, the City updated its local floodplain management regulations and adopted the 2024 FIRMs. Property owners can use FEMA’s Flood Map Service Center to access various resources related to federal flood insurance. The City’s GIS map allows property owners to view their property and identify the flood determination that may apply to them.
